Commitment to Diversity

Commitment to diversity is such a strong topic to cover and discuss.I feel like it needs to be heard more. Though I do not cover it as much, I find it very interesting to see and hear what other people have to say about their culture. For example, in this post, I covered a multicultural potluck and was able to see the action in person and how excited people were to share their own food.

Students and staff had the opportunity to sample foods from different cultures as cultural clubs and societies gathered in the gym to host a multicultural potluck. Held during lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 16, the potluck served as a way for such clubs to share their traditions and be represented. Some foods included samosas and fried rice from the Asian Culture Society (ACS), challah and sufganiyot from the Jewish Student Union (JSU), and empanadas and plantain chips from the Latin Hispanic Heritage Club (LHHC).

“This is a really good way for us to celebrate Thanksgiving,” ACS member and strings junior Anric Ngan said. “We can also celebrate the diversity of Dreyfoos and experience different foods that we might not be able to at home.”

Commitment to diversity also specializes in capturing the teachers. Students and staff are a huge part of Dreyfoos, but we tend to cover mostly the students. To create diversity I tired to find ways to cover teachers. As shown, I was able to cover them during Spirit Week.
